The Link between Diabetes and Heart Disease

Diabetes and heart disease are two common ailments affecting the middle aged. These two diseases are often linked, caused by the same factors.

Facts about Diabetes and Heart Disease

The common factors for diabetes and heart disease are genetics and being overweight.

Diabetes can be inherited. It can also be acquired through diet and lifestyle. The second type of diabetes is called Type Two Diabetes. Type Two Diabetes afflicts overweight people with excessive sugar in their diet. Consuming too much junk food is unhealthy. Junk food is often high on sugar and fats. Too much sugar in the diet causes diabetes, as the body is unable to cope with the higher blood sugar level.

Heart disease can also be due to genetics. It is also prevalent in overweight people. The main linkage between diabetes and heart disease is being overweight. There is a direct relationship between diabetes and heart disease especially if the diabetes is Type Two Diabetes.

Type Two Diabetes is normally caused by years of indulgence in junk food, which is high in both sugar content and fats. Hence, the risk of heart disease is naturally higher for people with Type Two Diabetes, as the fats consumed leads to high cholesterol. The accumulation of fats on the inner linings of the artery will eventually leads to coronary heart disease.

So, to avoid getting both diabetes and heart disease, a proper diet is very important. Avoid consuming excessive sugar and high cholesterol. Maintain a healthy and active lifestyle with regular exercise. If you are overweight, it is vital to lose weight to a healthy level. Ailments due to genetics are unavoidable but many people with diabetes and heart disease could have avoided the diseases through simply living healthily. Diabetes and heart disease is not just a middle age problem. The root is often in the younger years where poor eating habits and aversion to exercises are formed.
