Hereditary Heart Disease
Hereditary heart disease is a form of congenital heart disease. It refers to heart disease, which is passed down through the family. It is basically unavoidable and unpreventable. If one has a history of heart disease in the family then there is a significant risk of hereditary heart disease. The risk of hereditary heart disease is greater if heart disease is present among the first-degree relatives namely the parent and siblings. If the heart disease is present at an early age among one's relatives, the risk of developing hereditary heart disease is significantly higher. Hereditary heart disease is caused by a variety of factors, some of them are actually avoidable. These are mainly pertaining to the type of lifestyle and habits, which may be, inculcated in the young and hence start a chain of hereditary heart disease. For example, habit of smoking, bad eating habits, sedentary lifestyle can pick up by young children putting them at risk of developing heart disease later. The chain of hereditary heart disease due to lifestyle and bad habits can certainly be changed. It is as simple as making sure that the people in the family live as healthy a lifestyle as possible. This includes a well-balanced diet, getting enough exercise and abstaining from smoking and excessive drinking. Hereditary heart disease due to genes is unavoidable. However, by following a healthy lifestyle and taking the required medication, the risk of developing heart disease is lower. In the rare case of familial hypercholesterolaemia, high cholesterol can be hereditary. If diagnosed, close relatives should also go for medical check up for cholesterol level. While there is no sure way to prevent hereditary heart disease, you can protect yourself against it by maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. It will not only be guard against heart disease but against various health conditions as well.
