Rheumatic Heart Disease
Rheumatic heart disease is a serious and insidious disorder. It is a heart condition that resulted from rheumatic fever which is a debilitating disorder with serious effects by itself. Strep Throat and Rheumatic Heart Disease Rheumatic heart disease can be the result of complications arising from strep throat infections. Strep throat if not properly treated can lead to rheumatic fever, which in turn can cause damage to the heart. Strep throat is a fairly common disease. It afflicts many people who do not treat a minor sore throat infection properly and timely. However, there is no need for alarm if one does contract strep throat. The number of cases of rheumatic heart disease that occurring, as a result of strep throat is fairly rare. In fact, the overall number of cases of rheumatic heart disease has decreased significantly since the 1960's. It is rare but still possible to contract rheumatic heart disease from strep throat, hence a simple ailment like sore throat should be properly treated. Rheumatic Heart Disease and Heart Failure If rheumatic fever is contracted and it leads to rheumatic heart disease, the treatment is much easier than the common treatments for other forms of heart disease. The treatment would include taking cortisteroid anti-inflammatory medication to reverse any potential cardiac problems that the rheumatic fever may cause. However, the requirement for other more complicated treatment such as surgery cannot be totally ruled out.
